Join us for a 90-minute Career Retrospective with actor Luis Guzmán

With over 30 years in the movie industry, Luis Guzmán continues to evolve as a powerhouse talent. He currently stars in the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s Wednesday as Gomez Addams. A longtime favorite of directors Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Limey, Traffic) and Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love), Guzmán has also captivated audiences on television in acclaimed series such as Shameless (Showtime), Godfather of Harlem (MGM+), and Perpetual Grace, LTD. As one of the founders of Dark Rabbit Productions, he brings a bold vision to creating high-quality, original content for a global audience

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City’s Lower East Side, Luis Guzmán developed a deep commitment to community advocacy from an early age. In the 1970s, he became actively involved with CHARAS, a grassroots organization focused on urban ecology, arts, and cultural development. During this time, he also supported Cesar Chavez’s historic grape boycott, marking the beginning of a lifelong dedication to social justice. Guzmán’s passion for giving back has remained unwavering—he continues to champion organizations such as Advocates for Children and the Henry Street Settlement, regularly volunteering his time to speak, mentor, and support initiatives that uplift underserved communities.

Luis Guzmán’s path to acting began unexpectedly. What started as a favor for friends—performing in street theater productions in New York’s Lower East Side—soon became a recurring passion. Although he never set out to be an actor, he continued to take on roles while pursuing a degree from The City College of New York. After graduation, he worked as a social worker in one of the city’s most successful welfare-to-work programs, helping individuals transition off public assistance. It was during this time that a friend invited him to audition for a television project—unbeknownst to Guzmán, it was for the iconic series Miami Vice. He accepted the role and continued balancing acting and social work for six more years before fully committing to his acting career. His breakout roles soon followed, with memorable performances in The Count of Monte Cristo, Carlito’s Way, and critically acclaimed television series such as Narcos, OZ, and How to Make It in America.

A devoted family man and proud father of five, Luis Guzmán has passed down his strong work ethic and passion for creativity to his children, many of whom are forging their own paths in the entertainment industry. Outside of his work, he enjoys dancing, playing music, photography, and cooking—best known among friends and family for his signature dish, “Chicken a la Louey.” Grounded by humility and a deep sense of compassion, Luis is driven not only by his craft but also by a desire to be a positive force in the lives of others.
