Join us for a panel with American Cinema Editors David Helfand, Timothy Good, Jordan Goldman and Leigh Folsom Boyd as they help actors understand what happens during editing along with constructive insights into how performances are judged and chosen. These award winning editors from top TV shows & films will share their common experiences, the unique differences between acting in comedy, drama and visual effect productions and how AI is impacting all of it.
The goal is for actors to leave feeling more confident, knowledgeable and connected to their fellow collaborators on the other side of the screen. It will be followed by a 15-minute audience Q&A.
Program length will be about 2hrs.
BIOS:
David Helfand, ACE: When David started editing, he wasn’t looking at comedy but comedy found him. He’s been finding the funny ever since with people like Chuck Lorre, Mike White, Tina Fey, Adam McKay, Jenji Kohan, Mindy Kaling and Darren Star. He’s earned multiple awards, including three Emmy nominations for his single and multi-camera work on shows like Friends, Weeds and Young Sheldon. As a member of the American Cinema Editors Education Committee, he's lectured about the art and practice of editing to universities nationwide.
Jordan Goldman, ACE has worked for over 25 years in Hollywood, editing more than 100 episodes of television drama, ranging from 'The Shield' and 'Homeland' to 'Washington Black.' His keen eye for performance and strong sense of story have earned him an Emmy and an American Cinema Editors Eddie. Jordan is also the author of the very helpful book How To Avoid The Cutting Room Floor: An editor’s advice for on-camera actors. He has shared his advice at acting programs across the country.
Leigh Folsom Boyd, ACE is both a film editor and member of SAG/AFTRA . She began her editing career in television shows in the 1990s and later transitioned into major feature films specializing in the action and visual effects genre such as the 'Fast & Furious' series, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,' 'Spider-Man: Far From Home,' 'Black Widow' and 'Madame Web.' She's also received numerous best editing nominations for her work on 'Furious 7' and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home.'
Timothy Good, ACE is the editor of the hit series 'The Last of Us,' for which he was nominated for a 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing For A Drama Series for the episode “Through the Valley.” He won a 2023 Emmy Award for his work on season 1 of the series. Good also edited the acclaimed season 1 episode, “Long, Long Time,” featuring the love story between characters Bill and Frank. For that episode, he won the 2024 ACE Eddie Award for Best Drama Series. Prior to his work on 'The Last of Us,' Good edited a wide variety of TV series and miniseries, including 'When We Rise,' 'The Umbrella Academy' and 'Fringe.' He also worked on classic series such as the original 'Gossip Girl' and 'THE O.C.' In his spare time, he teaches editing to up and coming students at UCLA’s film school.
