SYNOPSIS

With the Artios Awards at the end of January, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's The Business program celebrates the hard working casting directors whose projects have been nominated. The goal of this panel is to provide a treasure trove of well-earned advice for actors from superstar industry professionals, as well as stories and anecdotes from the television shows that were nominated.


PANELISTS

Carol Goldwasser - nominated for Austin & AllyDog with a Blog
Carol is an independent casting director who has worked for over twenty years in Los Angeles and New York. Carol has cast actors who have received Kid's and Teen Choice Awards, Imagen Awards, Young Artist Awards, and Emmy Award nominations for their roles. Her series work includes Austin & Ally, Dog with a Blog, I’m in the Band and Hannah Montana for Disney Channel. Other series: Out of Jimmy’s Head for Cartoon Network; The Hughleys for UPN. Telefilms: Good Luck Charlie: It’s Christmas! for Disney Channel and The Boy Who Cried Werewolf for Nickelodeon. In 2012, Carol assembled a rotating weekly cast for Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. The show received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Unique Theatrical Event. She has been nominated for eleven Casting Society of America Artios Awards for excellence in casting, and has won twice; she was also a Heller Award nominee for 2013 Television Casting Director of the year. Carol is a member of the Television Academy and the Casting Society of America.

Howard Meltzer, nominated for Lab Rats and pilot of Girl Meets World
Howard Meltzer, CSA, has been casting television in Los Angeles since 2002. He has been responsible for, and collaborated on, numerous series, pilots and made-for-television movies. For Disney Channel & Disney XD, his work includes the series Bunk'd, Best Friends WheneverLab RatsLab Rats Elite Force, MTX!, Wizards of Waverly Place: Reunion SpecialShake It UpHannah Montana, and I’m in the Band, the pilot Girl Meets World, and the television movie Den Brother. His Nickelodeon credits include the pilots Life With BoysBig Time Rush,The Troop and The Fresh Beat Band and the television moviesSpectacular! and The Best Player. His feature films include Lonely Boy and the Los Angeles casting forThe Impossible. Howard began his career in New York as a staff casting director at Stuart Howard Associates, where he worked on the casting for the Broadway productions ofThe GraduateFortune’s Fool, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man (2000 revival), Elaine May’s Taller Than a DwarfHonourEpic Proportions ,Annie Get Your Gun (2001 revival), Fosse, Chicago (1996 revival) ,Annie (1997 revival) and Grease (1998 revival) just to name a few. Howard has been nominated for 20 Artios Awards for excellence in casting and shared the honor twice for the television series Hannah Montana.
