SYNOPSIS

After quitting her stable but soul-crushing job, Leigh passes her days in an apathetic fog. Bored and feeling a vague sense of guilt, she volunteers at a local soup kitchen where she begins an electric but troubled affair with a young homeless man.

PANELISTS BIOS

Vicky Wight, writer, director, producer
Currently Vicky Wight, along with her producing partner Bridget Stokes, is developing a TV series loosely based on The Volunteer, written and directed by Wight and starring Aunjanue Ellis, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Scott Wolf, Hill Harper, Mary Beth Hurt, Eisa Davis, and Noah Gray-Cabey. Wight recently completed a screenplay for her next project, Emmett. Wight will produce and her partner, Stokes, will direct. Wight’s Instant Pictures recently optioned the rights to Katherine Center’s novel The Lost Husband. Vicky will adapt and direct the film. Her short film, Coffee, was an official selection at SXSW and her debut, The Volunteer, won best narrative feature at the Urban World Film Festival. Wight produced Bridget Stokes’ film Herman & Shelly and was an associate producer on Sande Zeig's debut feature, The Girl. She was a co-producer of the documentary Apache 8, currently airing on PBS. Vicky spent her career working with filmmakers on the marketing and distribution of independent films. She was the Vice President of Artistic License Films, an independent film distribution company where she oversaw the distribution of over 60 titles. Vicky has also been a marketing/distribution consultant for distributors including IFC Films as well as for individual filmmakers. Prior to Artistic License, Vicky was the program coordinator at the Independent Feature Project and worked on b-roll packages for Pepsi Companies at Robert Chang Productions. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she received a Bachelor of Science. She was a founding partner at BEV Pictures, a film distribution company and is currently a manager partner at Instant Pictures. She also sits on the advisory board of the Houston Cinema Arts Society.

Bridget Stokes, producer
Most recently Bridget Stokes has shadowed producing director David Katzenberg on ABC’s half-hour comedy The Goldbergs and veteran director Mel Damski on CBS’ hour-long drama Scorpion. Stokes is currently working with her partner Vicky Wight on a TV series loosely based on the latest feature Stokes produced, The Volunteer, written and directed by Vicky Wight and starring Aunjanue Ellis, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Scott Wolf, Hill Harper, Mary Beth Hurt, Eisa Davis and Noah Gray-Cabey. The Volunteer played on the festival circuit and won the Audience Award at the Urbanworld Film Festival. Prior to that, Stokes wrote, directed and produced the feature film Herman & Shelly, now in digital distribution on Amazon, Youtube, Vudu, CinemaNow and other digital media. Stokes produced the short films Oui Oui Non Non and Coffee, both written and directed by Vicky Wight. Coffee was an official selection at SXSW Film Festival. Stokes has worked in film distribution at IFC Films, Elephant Eye Films and BEV Pictures, a company she co-founded. She has worked in film production at Elephant Eye Films, as Research Coordinator on Jonathan Demme’s Untitled Bob Marley Project and currently as one of the managing partners at Instant Pictures. Bridget Stokes graduated from Brown University with a degree in Art Semiotics and Africana Studies. Currently Stokes and her business partner, Vicky Wight have several projects in development through their Instant Pictures production company, based in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX. Including the best-selling novel, The Lost Husband. Stokes directed the short film If You Leave this year and is slated to direct feature film Emmett (screenplay by Vicky Wight) this year.
