Join us for a 1-hour Q&A with Annette Bening and Director Tom Moore as they share their insights into the creative process, the director-actor collaboration and personal experience of forging an artistic life.


GUEST BIOS

Annette Bening is a four-time Academy Award nominee, two-time Golden Globe-winner, and a recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Award. She will next be seen on screen in DANNY COLLINS alongside Al Pacino, which is set for a March 2015 release. Previously, she appeared opposite Berenice Bejo in Michael Hazanavicius’ THE SEARCH which premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Her other film credits include THE FACE OF LOVE, RUBY SPARKS , GIRL MOST LIKELY, GINGER & ROSA, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT, MOTHER AND CHILD, BEING JULIA, AMERICAN BEAUTY, IN DREAMS, THE SIEGE, THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT, MARS ATTACKS!, RICHARD III, LOVE AFFAIR, BUGSY, REGARDING HENRY, THE GRIFTERS, GUILTY BY SUSPICION, VALMONT, POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE, and THE GREAT OUTDOORS.

Bening was last seen on stage in Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of KING LEAR in summer of 2014. Her additional theater credits include RUTH DRAPER MONOLOGUES at the Geffen Playhouse, Anton Chekhov’s THE CHERRY ORCHARD at the Mark Taper Forum, Alan Bennett’s TALKING HEADS at the Tiffany Theater, Henrik Ibsen’s HEDDA GABLER at Geffen Playhouse, and MEDEA at UCLA.

Annette received both a Tony Award nomination and won the Clarence Derwent Award for Outstanding Debut Performance of the Season for her role in COASTAL DISTURBANCES.

Annette graduated from San Francisco State University and was accepted by the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she trained until she joined the acting company.


Tom Moore is a highly respected Broadway and Los Angeles theatre director, whose portfolio includes the Pulitzer Prize-winning ‘NIGHT MOTHER starring Kathy Bates, and the original production of GREASE, for which he received a Tony nomination and which launched the careers of John Travolta, Richard Gere, Patrick Swayze and many more. Tom also directed the film of ’NIGHT MOTHER, starring Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft. He has directed John Lithgow, Helen Hunt, Lynn Redgrave, Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas – to name a few. He is an award-winning filmmaker and Emmy-nominated television director with such shows as ER (Emmy nomination), MAD ABOUT YOU (Emmy nomination), L.A. LAW (Emmy nomination), HUFF, MISMATCH, GILMORE GIRLS, ALLY MCBEAL, FELICITY, LATELINE, NOTHING SACRED, DHARMA AND GREG, SUDDENLY SUSAN, SOMETHING SO RIGHT, CYBILL, PRIDE & JOY, THIRTYSOMETHING, THE WONDER YEARS (The episode “Square Dance” won the Humanitas Prize), ALMOST GROWN, CHEERS, PICKET FENCES, CIVIL WARS, NORTHERN EXPOSURE, THE CLASS OF ‘96, GOOD COMPANY, BOSTON COMMON, MAYBE IT’S ME, THE COURT, and the late night FRIDAYS. He is particularly proud of GEPPETTO, the Stephen Schwartz musical film he directed for Disney, which starred Drew Carey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Brent Spiner, Rene Auberjonois and an exceptionally talented ensemble from the musical worlds of Broadway and Los Angeles.


Mr. Moore recently completed a 12-year term on the Executive Board of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and is now on the Advisory Board of the Yale School of Drama.

Recently, Tom has been producing and directing a documentary entitled THE FLIGHT FANTASTIC(A Story of Legend and Legacy on the Flying Trapeze). It recently had an Australian Premiere and is scheduled for the U.S. in the fall of 2015.

As an avocation, Mr. Moore is also involved with the Circus Arts, and spends as much time as possible on the flying trapeze.

Mr. Moore was a fellow at the American Film Institute, and he holds a B.A. from Purdue University and an M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Drama. He was also awarded the degree of Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, by Purdue University.

SDCF’s goals are to provide opportunities to practice the crafts of directing and choreography; to gather and disseminate craft and career information; to promote the profession to emerging talent; to provide opportunities for exchange of knowledge among directors and choreographers; and to increase awareness of the value of directors’ and choreographers’ work.
