CASTING DIRECTOR BIO

John Jackson began his career in film as an actor in Los Angeles. Working under the name John Durbin, he appeared in a combination of over one hundred films, television movies, series television and plays.

Returning to the Midwest in the late 1980’s, John met filmmaker Alexander Payne. The two have collaborated on 6 films: Sideways (CSA Artios award), About Schmidt (CSA Artios award), Election, Citizen Ruth, The Descendants and Nebraska. In autumn of 2015 they will continue work on their 7th feature film, Downsizing.

As his interest in acting diminished, his work in casting grew. John has had the great good fortune to cast films for other established directors such as; Korean director Joon-Ho Bong (The Host), French writer/director Jennifer Devoldere (Shoe At Your Foot) producer/director Tony Krantz (Otis) and, as producer, Daniel Myrick (The Blair Witch Project). John is currently casting, Shovel Buddies. The film is a feature length production for AwesomenessTV, produced under the SAG New Media Contract.

Dividing his time between LA and his home in Iowa, John spends his free time between film projects yelling at small children to stay out of his yard and working as a director and/or actor with the Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company in Omaha, Nebraska. BSBTC is a regional theatre company based in Omaha, which produces a full season of 5 plays per year with an emphasis on the classics. This is their 21st season of plays.
