SYNOPSIS

Whether you choose to do commercials, broadcast news, promos, trailers, audio books or any other form of voice-over, it’s not about the KIND of voice you have. It's about HOW you use it that matters. Understanding what makesyour voice unique is one of the keys to attaining success as a voice-over artist. This class helps you begin to explore ways to connect with the elements that form a true signature voice – which allows one to connect more authentically with whatever form of voice-over you may do.

This workshop will end at 1pm. You must stay for the whole time period.

Location:
Academy of Art University
466 Townsend St
San Francisco, CA 94107
Room 110

INSTRUCTOR BIO

In 1977, Paul Pape was cast to co-star as ‘Double J’ in "Saturday Night Fever", a film that would help launch his career.  In addition to his other on-camera and on-stage appearances over the years, he has established himself as one of the top voice-over artists in the business. With over 6500 voice-over credits to-date, Paul has been heard in almost every form of media, including commercials, narrations, video games and more.  His voice has been used on over 140 television series – not to mention in some of the biggest blockbuster films of recent years - like “Frozen” “Avatar”, the “Shrek” series of films and “The Avengers”.  Among the many directors he has worked with are Oliver Stone, Joel and Ethan Coen, Kevin Costner, Barbara Streisand, Taylor Hackford and Ridley Scott. Recent work includes being one of the main voices of President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, as well as the Starz Channel, Fox Sports Network, HBO, CINTAS and SONY Electronics.

A member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Paul also serves on the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. He is a Co-Founder of the Foundation’s Don LaFontaine Voice-over Lab, having conceived of the idea as a way to honor the memory of his best friend. The half-million dollar facility, located in Los Angeles, opened in 2010 and is dedicated to the development and success of voice-over artists. Because of its stellar track record, a second Voice-Lab (funded by the Entertainment Industry Foundation) was recently opened at the SAG Foundation’s offices in New York.
