Do you speak another language in addition to English? Say...Italian, Igbo, Spanish, Yoruba, German, Japanese, Korean? ADR groups are often looking for fluent multi-lingual actors for a host of projects.  We have previously hosted ADR workshops at the VO Lab, but this 3-class series will go deeper to help you master the art of group ADR.

You will breakdown types of shows, how and what to research, developing voices and characters, accents, languages, practice at how to "read’ the screen, how to determine what’s needed in scenes, reading copy, and during the last class participate in a mock ADR session.

You must attend all three (3) classes. The classes are on:

Monday, August 29, 2016 - 7:00pm-9:00pm
Wednesday, August 31, 2016 - 7:00pm-9:00pm
Thursday, September 1, 2016 - 7:00pm-9:00pm


To participate, read carefully:

  • Add your name to the workshop WAITLIST and then proceed with the submission process.

  • Actors are required to submit an audition of the entire scene: "Checking In" (provided below) to be considered for participationin this ADR series.  

  • Submission deadline extended: Due by Monday, August 29, 2016 at 11:00 am.  Please do not wait until the last minute to submit.

  • Ask the questions in English.

  • Answer the questions in one or more of the languages you speak.

  • Submit your audition as an mp3 audio file by and label your submission with: Your first and last name - ADR MC / Example: Kevin Bacon - ADR MC

  • Email your audition toAric Shuford at ashuford@sagfoundation.org with the following information in the subject window of your email:  Your first and last name - ADR MC / Example: Kevin Bacon - ADR MC.  The same way you label your audition file.

  • File quality depends on your recording device and space. Submit the best file quality possible for you.  You can record on your phone or on a microphone. Slate your name and If possible, do two different characters, one in English and the other in a language/languages. Versatility and fluency are key! The scene is checking in at the airport (see below).

Ask: Thank you. Would you like smoking or non-smoking?
Answer: Non-smoking, please.


Ask: Would you like a window or an aisle seat?
Answer: An aisle seat, please.


Ask: Do you have any baggage?
Answer: Yes, this suitcase and this carry-on bag.


Ask: Here's your boarding pass. Have a nice flight.
Answer: Thank you.

About our guest instructor:

KAREN HUIE is an actor/writer/photographer/filmmaker/voiceover artist. She has done animation, videogames and group ADR on hundreds upon hundreds of films and television shows. Highlights: Acting in a western, "Wild Bill" and being in the main titles. Being offered a sitcom pilot deal by CBS, being offered a job as unit still photographer for "Sideways" and after voicing many orgasms in "40 Year Old Virgin", being called 'the orgasm queen', she was hired back to do a featured orgasm for the film.
