SYNOPSIS

A conversation with directors of television dramas to discuss their approaches to working with actors. The panel will address techniques for communicating the director’s vision for a scene and the ways in which they collaborate with performers to execute specific goals for the episode as a whole. Hear from these distinguished directors about their process behind directing a TV drama and how the actor can best serve that process.

Moderator - Jill D'Agnenica
Jill D’Agnenica is an award winning filmmaker and visual artist who grew up devouring stories in books and on television in the kitchens of her family’s restaurants, nurturing her lifelong devotion to narrative storytelling in its multiple forms. Jill's directorial debut, the feature film Life Inside Out, won Best Premiere at the Heartland Film Festival in 2013 and went on to be screened at 20 festivals throughout the US and Canada, receiving 17 awards, including 5 Best Feature and 4 Audience Awards. After a limited theatrical release, Life Inside Out was released on DVD and VOD in April 2015. 

As an editor, Jill has had the pleasure of working on drama series including Pretty Little Liars (Freeform), Switched at Birth (Freeform), Undercovers (NBC), Hollywood Heights (Nickelodeon), Dirt (FX), and The Division (Lifetime). In between television gigs, she has worn the hats of director, editor and producer on music videos, PSAs, indie shorts and features. 

Jill holds a BA in history from UCLA and an MFA in Visual Art from Claremont Graduate University. She is currently a Director in the Disney | ABC Directing Program and she recently directed her first episode of television on Freeform’s Switched at Birth.
