SYNOPSIS

This panel will discuss the current state of Commercial VO, what it used to be and where it is headed.  The panel consists of industry professionals offering perspectives from the actor, casting director and agency point of view.  The audience is encouraged to come equipped with questions related to the topic and/or open to asking questions inspired by the discussion.

Moderated by Paul Pape, voiceover actor, Co-Founder of the DLF VO Lab, Chair of the DLF VO Lab Advisory Board


PANELIST'S BIOS

Sylvia Villagran - Actor    

Sylvia Villagran is one of the top female voices for national commercial campaigns and narration, as well as TV network promos and live award shows, Her national commercial campaigns include Samsung, Cigna health, Crest and Payless shoes. Additionally, she currently lends her promo voice to NBC, CBS, TCM, the CW and the Disney Channel. She’s the Live announcer for the Critics Choice Awards, MTV VMAs, Teen Choice Awards, AFI tributes, Writer’s Guild Awards and the historic 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Convention.  Sylvia also does all of this in Spanish.  Additionally, Sylvia is a member of the SAG Foundation's Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab Advisory Board.

Bill Ratner - Actor    

Bill is one of America’s most-heard voices on movie trailers, TV promos, documentaries, commercials, games & cartoons.  As the voice of Hyundai USA, you hear Bill's voice just about everyday on radio and television. He is also the original voice of “Flint” on G.I. Joe, Robot Chicken & Family Guy. Not to mention that he is an eight-time winner of The Moth Storytelling SLAMs, featured on National Public Radio and serves on the Advisory Board of SAG Foundation's Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab.

Carroll Kimble - Casting Director, Carroll Voiceover Casting    

Carroll's career began with Bert, Barz & Kirby where she spent eight years in production, casting and communication with agents, ad agency creative directors and producers. In 1992, she decided to go on her own, taking with her years of invaluable experience.  Not only does she know a great voice when she hears one, but she can give them the direction they need to fit any project. Whether it’s selling beer or luxury cars, from industrial narration to cartoon characters, Carroll knows what to do to make it all come together.and make them all special.

Mary Lynn Wissner - Casting Director, Voices Voicecasting      

Since, 1990 Mary Lynn and her award winning company, Voices Voicecasting in Los Angeles, has cast thousands and thousands of voice talent in thousands and thousands of voiceover productions. From the Clio winning Chevron Talking Cars  to the 13 part History, The Color of War to Chrysler, Radio Shack, Chiquita, Fiat, Taco Bell, Coca-Cola, Toyota, Legos, Walgreens, Kleenex, US Army, Sony, 7-11, Tecate, Clorox, Jeep, Mattel, Leap Pad (just to name a few)... to several feature films, animation series and video games, audio books and narrations. Also, casting voices for E-Learning, Promos and IVR...whatever voice request is needed, Mary Lynn has found the voice for it. In 2014, Mary Lynn created the The Voice Over Self Direction app. The app for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices guides talent to the perfect read, right at their fingertips and right in their home booth!                                   

Sumeet Iyengar - Agent, Voiceover (Commercials/Video Games), CESD Talent 
Sumeet Iyengar has been a part of CESD Talent’s voiceover department since 2003 focusing on commercials.  Recently, Sumeet has started covering video games as well.  He has worked with ad agencies, casting directors and production companies all over the world booking voices on memorable campaigns for Geico, AFLAC and Snapple among many others in both English and Spanish.

Attendees must stay for the entire panel, which is scheduled from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
