The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s New York Short Film Showcase is a cinematic celebration of new projects designed to encourage performers to create their own short films and web series.

Held biannually in March and September at the Robin Williams Center, the showcase presents a juried selection of shorts followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, and featured actors present at the screening.

This Q&A will be moderated by Lori Hammel.

Estimated end of program - 8:45 PM

PROGRAM

Interference | Co-Directed and Produced by Ruya Koman

A violent altercation between a police officer and an African-American man on a deserted country road has left one person dead. An interracial couple passing by must decide what to believe and what they are willing to do about it.

Lesson #2 | Written and Directed by Alberto Ferreras

A woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown meets a therapist on the verge of a nervous breakdown. After a controversial diagnosis, chaos ensues.

Disforia | Written and Directed by Lio Mehiel

A young, gender-queer person comes home for Christmas dinner to find his family has left, and the house has been sold. As he makes his way through the empty house, he is confronted with the haunting visions of another reality - perhaps his family would still be there, if he had come home as the “Jane” they all know. Inspired by the surreal and the uncanny, this queer coming of age story presents two simultaneous realities that ultimately ask us to consider the burden of hidden identity and how we might make space for those different than ourselves.

Margaret and Gary | Written and Directed by Fredric Lehne

A man and his GPS, fleeing murder and madness, drive into the twilight zone.

The Visit | Written and Directed by Romina Schwedler

Devastated by the loss of his wife and son, Ben responds to his mother's sudden request for a visit. But when she announces the alleged arrival of his departed family, what he strives to sustain as a gentle encounter soon spirals into torment, finally revealing a most unsettling truth.

Bob & Dale | Written and Directed by David Rosfeld

An elderly gay couple living off the grid in the Rocky Mountains finds a deeper love when dementia threatens their independence.
