SYNOPSIS

With the on-going changes with technology and the entertainment industry the ability for an actor to self-tape is no longer an option. Though the technology is easy to come by, one still needs to know the technical skills. This panel will cover topics including backgrounds, framing, lighting, readers as well as the overall mindset around self-taping.


PANELISTS BIOS

Rick Messina, casting director
recently cast the first Viceland series “What Would Diplo Do?” Starring James Van Der Beek, The Audience Network/DirecTV pilot “Hit The Road” starring Jason Alexander and the upcoming Netflix Documentary “They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead” directed by Academy Award winner Morgan Neville. Other casting credits include: the STARZ series "Blunt Talk" starring Patrick Stewart, the Netflix Special "Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentines Day Special”, season 4 of the Seeso/Comedy Bang! Bang! series "Bajillion Dollar Propertie$” produced by Scott Aukerman & Thomas Lennon and the independent movie "After The Reality" starring Matthew Morrison & Sarah Chalke. Rick is currently working as the Associate Casting Director on the Paramount series "Magic Hour” and the MGM/Epix series “Our Lady, LTD” starring Ben Kingsley. He also helped to cast the upcoming HULU series “Catch 22” directed by and starring George Clooney. Other associate casting director credits include: “Blockers” starring John Cena, Leslie Mann & Ike Barinholtz for Universal, the Netflix Series "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later" and the Sony feature "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" staring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart & Jack Black. Other past projects include: The TBS pilot "World's End" written by Jonathan Ames, the FOX Series "The Grinder" starring Robe Lowe and Fred Savage, The New Line Cinema feature "Keanu" and CBS films' "Middle School, The Worst Years Of My Life". He also worked on 3 seasons of the hit Comedy Central series, "Workaholics" starring Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson. Rick was also the Associate Casting Director on the Disney feature "Tomorrowland" starring George Clooney, and two pilots for ABC, "The Pro" starring Rob Lowe and "An American Education" starring Jack Whitehall and Rosie Perez.

Meg Morman, casting director
Meg met her casting partner, Sunday Boling, in the Feature Casting office of 20th Century Fox, working on a variety of films, including Ice Age, Dude, Where’s My Car?, From Hell, One Hour Photo, Unfaithful, Behind Enemy Lines and Big Momma’s House.  They opened their own shingle in late 2004.

Their credits include the award winning films Hello, My Name is Dori(starring Sally Field, Max Greenfield, Stephen Root, Tyne Daly), Natural Selection (starring Rachael Harris, Matt O’Leary and Jon Gries), I Believe in Unicorns (starring Peter Vack and Natalia Dyer), Take Me Home (starring Sam Jaeger, Victor Garber and Lin Shaye), Dear Lemon Lima (starring Melissa Leo, Beth Grant, Elaine Hendrix, Meaghan Jette Martin and Vanessa Marano), Magic Valley (starring Scott Glenn, Kyle Gallner, Alison Elliott, Brad William Henke, Johnny Lewis and Will Estes), and Mississippi Damned (starring Malcolm Goodwin, Tessa Thompson, DB Woodside and Malcolm David Kelley). Together they also cast the hugely successful feature Waitress (starring Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Jeremy Sisto, Cheryl Hines and Andy Griffith), which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.

Shayna Sherwood, casting director
Shayna Sherwood began her career in the film industry interning for FOX under Marcia Shulman. She went on to work in various Casting offices, including working for well-known Casting Directors Carol Goldwasser (Disney’s Hannah Montana, Austin & Ally) and Francine Maisler (12 Years a Slave, HBO’s The Newsroom). In 2015, Shayna began her own casting company with Nickole Doro. Their focus on the emerging digital platforms and non-traditional talent such as social media influencers have led them to become the go-to Casting Directors in digital programming. Shayna and Nickole remain focused on digital platforms while continuing to cast indie films under $5M budgets. Their more notable works include the first ever feature film shot entirely via Snapchat "Sickhouse," indie band drama Cover Versions (starring Debby Ryan and Katie Cassidy), and they are currently nominated for their second Artios Award for Best Casting of a Short Form Series.
