SYNOPSIS

ROOM: Digital Media Lab, Garner 161

This two-part class is for beginner, intermediate and advanced level performers.  Actress and voiceover artist, Gy Mirano will present a general overview of the voiceover market, provide individual goals assessments, and guide you in your recording booth etiquette  She will recommend techniques and independent homework, and discuss creative and business goals with actors.  Both sessions will close with a Q&A about creativity and the business of the business.  Classes will be conducted in English and copy reading can be in either English or Spanish, according to each student's preference.  

Performers are encouraged to attend both classes. 

Part 1

This class will give performers a general overview of the U.S. union voiceover market: commercials, industrials, narrations, audiobooks and podcasts, and how to go about getting the tools you need in order to be a working professional voice artist.  There will be an evaluation of where you are in your voiceover career, and address where you think you need to improve in order to move forward.

You will get ideas and suggestions on how to improve your current platform, or create one from scratch. Gy Mirano will cover website development, social media pages, and creating voiceover demos.  You will get advice on how to present yourself in a business setting from an audition or agent’s office to posting on your social media pages, writing and answering business emails.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Gy Mirano

Gy is a New York actress, voiceover artist and arts advocate originally from South America.  Some of her voiceover credits include, Nikon, Avon, Bellagio, Ford, Folgers, Time Magazine, The New York Times, FEMA, Bloomberg, PBS, HBO, MoMa and LACMA.  She was the Spanish-language announcer for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and for the campaign of U.S. Senator, Catherine Cortez.  Her television and film credits include: Law & Order, Against the Law, Crime Story, Double Deception, Real Sports, Paragraph 175, Front Line, Dora the Explorer, Les Petites Canailles, Sticky Fingers, Call Me, Now is Forever, 3 Américas and Rights on the Line.  

She is on the Advisory Board and Film jury of CUNY's The Americas Films Festival of New York, Advisory Board of the Jersey City Arts Council and Film Jury at the Queens World Film Festival.

Her work as a performer together with her advocacy of Latin American arts and culture in the U.S. was recently recognized with the Gabriela Mistral, Julia de Burgos, Frida Kahlo Award.

Ms. Mirano is honored to serve as a voiceover coach/instructor at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's EIF Voiceover Lab in New York and is always eager to share her expertise with aspiring and established performers.
