SYNOPSIS

Over the course of a decade, American Woman follows the story of a young, single mother whose life is forever changed when her teenage daughter goes missing, leaving her alone with her baby grandson. Deb Callahan (Sienna Miller) lives a tumultuous life in Aston, PA, working at her neighborhood grocery store and navigating a series of failed romantic relationships while dealing with her exasperating mother, Peggy (Amy Madigan), and her tightly-wound sister, Kath (Christina Hendricks). The only light in her life is her young daughter, Bridget (Sky Ferreira), and Bridget's son, Jesse. After a night of babysitting Jesse so Bridget could go out on a date, Deb wakes up to find that Bridget has disappeared. Years pass and Bridget is still missing, while meanwhile Deb has tremendous personal growth, successfully graduating from community college and beginning to date Chris (Aaron Paul), whom she eventually marries. Relief, however, will only prove fleeting. Throughout her trials and tribulations, Deb remains trapped by her unrelenting search for closure on her vanished daughter.
