SYNOPSIS

This class will include a Q&A and a SELF TAPE CLASS with live feedback. Participants MUST be able to complete their self-tape and submit via an Unlisted YouTube Link and send the link to castingaccess@sagaftra.foundation by 9:00AM PST | 12:00PM EST Thursday, December 14th. (Please see additional self-tape instructions below) Select your own 2 minute scene that you would be cast for your self-tape or submit an already recorded self-tape that you are allowed to share.  All participating actors must have the capability to watch the class' self-tapes during the Q&A/Watch & Feedback session on Zoom.

CASTING DIRECTOR BIO

Marin Hope is a Los Angeles native and LA-based casting director. In 2006, Marin made the move to New York City, after landing a position at ABC Primetime Casting, under casting executive Marci Philips. She would go on to work with casting directors, Judy Henderson, Suzanne Smith-Crowley, Jessica Kelly, Billy Hopkins and Ann Goulder on projects such as Showtime's Homeland, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, ABC’S Pan Am, The WolverineLabor Day, ABC's Zero HourNoahThe Maze RunnerNBC'S The Blacklistand HBO's Bessie before returning to Los Angeles in 2014. 

Shortly after her return, Marin joined Define American as their Entertainment Media Director. Define American is a nonprofit media and culture organization founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Jose Antonio Vargas. Define American’s mission is to use the power of storytelling to transcend politics and shift the conversation around immigrants, identity, and citizenship in a changing America, humanizing the immigrant narrative, one story at a time. In addition to expanding Define American’s impact in television, film and entertainment, Marin produced the first annual Define American Film Festival in Des Moines preceding Iowa’s 2016 Presidential Caucuses.

Marin has since opened her own casting office, often partnering with veteran casting director, Heidi Levitt on film, television, theatre and commercial projects. Some credits include American Made, starring Tom Cruise and Domhnall Gleeson, Complete Unknown, starring Michael Shannon and Rachel Weisz, The Last Word, starring Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried, Kingsstarring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig, The Roads Not Taken, starring Javier Bardem, Elle Fanning, Laura Linney and Salma Hayek, All My Puny Sorrowsstarring Alison Pill, Sarah Gadon, Mare Winningham and Donal Logue, and most recently Raymond and Ray, starring Ethan Hawke, Ewan McGregor, Sophie Okonedo and Maribel Verdú, which premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and is now available to stream on Apple TV+.

Marin is a member of the Casting Society of America (CSA). She was was the recipient of an Artios Award for casting in 2020 and was nominated for Artios Awards in 2018 and 2022.

SELF TAPE REQUIREMENTS

Your video will not be accepted IF:

-Your video is shot vertically instead of horizontally. If you need to shoot on a smart phone or tablet, turn it sideways.

-It is not appropriately framed. Standard framing is top of the head to mid chest.

-The video has poor sound, clarity, or lighting. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it cannot take away from your performance.

-You have a distracting background. If you cannot provide a solid background, a minimal background is best.

-Your video has title cards or subtitles. They are unnecessary.

-Your video settings are not Unlisted. Videos that are Private or Public will not be accepted.

-You “share” the video through YouTube. You must email the video URL to the specified email address.

-You mark your video as 'Listed for Kids'. Videos are unable to be sent to the CD with this setting. Make sure this setting is disabled.


REQUIREMENTS

You must have completed a Casting Access Application prior to registering for this class.

Please note that the 90-day frequency restriction applies to this workshop. Your last frequency-restricted workshop must have taken place no less than 90 (ninety) days prior to this event to be eligible to register.

Only those participants who have received a telephoned or e-mailed confirmation message from staff will receive a link inviting them to the session. Waitlisted individuals who have not received such confirmation will not be sent the link to join the class.
