SYNOPSIS

This Masterclass will feature a 40 minute Q&A with Casting Director, Merri Sugarman, followed by a live, observed work session with a select group of actors.

CASTING DIRECTOR BIO

Merri Sugarman is a top NYC Casting Director with Tara Rubin Casting. Office credits include Broadway and National Tour productions of Ain’t Too Proud, The Band’s Visit, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Aladdin, Jersey Boys, Miss Saigon, Dear Evan Hansen, SIX, School of Rock, King Kong, Indecent, Cats, Gigi, Dr. Zhivago, How to Succeed…, Promises, Promises, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Bullets Over Broadway, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia!, Big Fish, A Little Night Music, Billy Elliot, Little Mermaid, Young Frankenstein, History Boys (US Casting), Spelling Bee, Spamalot and The Producers. They also cast for Dallas Theater Center, La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse, Sundance Theater Lab, Yale Rep and Chicago Lyric Opera among others. Merri first made a name for herself at Liberman/Hirschfeld, then Liberman/Patton Casting, working on such shows as NewsRadio, The Larry Sanders Show and the Miramax feature film Playing By Heart, starring Sean Connery and Angelina Jolie. In 2000, Merri moved to Dreamworks Studios as the Casting Executive in charge of TV Pilots and Series, including Spin City, and the critically acclaimed The Job, starring Denis Leary. She was then offered a position as the Director of Casting for Dramas and Movies at ABC Television, overseeing the casting of Alias, NYPD Blue, The Practice and the made for television movies Gilda Radner – It’s Always Something and The Music Man, starring Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth, to name just a few. She is the very proud CD of the critically acclaimed web series SUBMISSIONS ONLY and also boasts many TV & film projects, workshops and readings, including the new musical TREVOR, based on the Oscar winning short film.

Merri recently published From Craft to Career: A Casting Director's Guide.  Practical, positive and uplifting, the advice in this book is designed to lead to the best outcomes possible for you, the actor, making the transition from craft to career.


REQUIREMENTS

All members must show a valid SAG-AFTRA card when they check in for the class.  No admittance will be granted without your current card or receipt.

NO LATE ARRIVALS and NO WALK-INS are admitted. Only those participants who have received a telephoned or e-mailed confirmation message from staff will be admitted to the session. Waitlisted individuals who have not received such confirmation will not be admitted at the door. Please do not show up if you have not been explicitly confirmed as RSVPed.

Cancellations are required by midnight the night before the class. Cancellation can only be made via the website. You cannot cancel your RSVP via email or phone.  Those who have been seated by the start date are expected to comply. You must cancel your reservation before the start date if you cannot comply, or you will face a six month ineligibility period.  DO NOT BE LATE.  Check-in begins 15 minutes to the class start time.  If you arrive after the start time, you will not be admitted and it will be counted as a no-show.
