Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winner, BAFTA and Academy Award-nominee Rosamund Pike has earned international acclaim for her film, television and stage roles.
Rosamund can currently be seen starring as the wickedly funny Elspeth in Emerald Fennell’s (PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN) film SALTBURN alongside Jacob Elordi, Barry Keoghan, Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant and Alison Oliver. The feature film is a story about obsession and has been produced by Fennell and LuckyChap Entertainment’s Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie. The film was theatrically released on 17th November.
It was recently announced that Rosamund will star alongside Matthew Rhys in a new psychological thriller HALLOW ROAD, which follows two parents as they enter a race against time after receiving a distressing late-night phone call from their daughter after she caused a tragic car accident. The film will be produced by Lucan Toh of Two & Two Pictures, Ian Henry of London Film & TV and Richard Bolger of Hail Mary Pictures. XYZ Films and Screen Ireland are co-financing.
Rosamund was recently seen reprising her role as Moiriane, the leader of the magical all female organisation the ‘Aes Sedai’, in the second season of THE WHEEL OF TIME. The Amazon fantasy series is based on the eponymous novels by Robert Jordan which follows Moiraine as she leads five young people on a journey around the world while trying to learn which of them will fulfil the prophecy of the Dragon Reborn. The first season was released on Prime Video on 19th November 2021 and the second season was released on 1st September this year.
In addition to her on screen portrayal of Moiraine, Rosamund has also narrated the first three audiobooks of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series of novels. In March, she won the Audie Award for Best Female Narrator for her narration of the first book The Eye of the World. The Great Hunt was released last August and The Dragon Reborn was released in June by MacMillan.
Rosamund also lent her voice to two podcast series earlier this year; the first was MOTHER, NEIGHBOR, RUSSIAN SPY, a documentary podcast exploring the true story behind a Russian spy’s life in deep cover inside the USA. The series was released via Audible on 20th April. The second was BBC’s PEOPLE WHO KNEW ME, an audio drama about Emily Morris (voiced by Rosamund) who uses 9/11 to fake her own death and run away to start a new life in California as Connie Prynne. Fourteen years later, now with a teenage daughter by her side, Connie is diagnosed with breast cancer. She will be forced to confront her past so that her daughter will not be left on her own if she does not survive. Rosamund stars alongside Hugh Laurie, Kyle Soller, Isabella Sermon and Alfred Enoch. The 10-part series is the first audio drama from the makers of BAD SISTERS and was written and directed by Daniella Isaacs, adapted from the book by Kim Hooper
In June 2021, Rosamund was heard starring as former First Lady, Edith Wilson, in QCODE and Crooked Media’s satire podcast EDITH! The limited series tells the story of Edith Wilson, the second wife of President Woodrow Wilson. It was written by comedian and TV writer
Gonzalo Cordova and Crooked Media head writer Travis Helwig. Rosamund was also executive producer on the show. Rosamund won an Ambies Award in the ‘Best Performer in Audio Fiction’ category for her work on the project.
In early 2021, Rosamund won the award for best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture at the Golden Globes for her performance in J Blakeson’s dark comedy I CARE A LOT. The film sees Rosamund play the lead role, Marla Grayson, alongside Peter Dinklage, Eiza González and Dianne Wiest. Marla is a very successful legal guardian who uses the law to her own benefit but at her clients’ detriment. As she starts to cherry pick the seemingly perfect client, she quickly learns that looks can be deceiving. I CARE A LOT premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in 2020 and is now available to watch on Netflix in the US and Prime Video in the UK.
In 2020, Rosamund starred in RADIOACTIVE, a film which focuses on the life of the two-time Nobel Prize winning scientist Marie Curie (played by Rosamund) as she makes her ground breaking discoveries in the 20th Century. Directed by Marjane Satrapi (PERSEPOLIS), it had been adapted from Lauren Redniss’ graphic novel of Marie and Pierre Curie by Jack Thorne (THE AERONAUTS, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD). RADIOACTIVE was the Closing Night Gala at Toronto International Film Festival 2019 and was digitally released in the UK on 15th June 2020 and is now available to stream on Prime Video.
In 2019, Rosamund won an Emmy Award in the ‘Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy’ category for STATE OF THE UNION. The comedy series also won ‘Short Form Comedy or Drama Series’. Written by Nick Hornby (AN EDUCATION, ABOUT A BOY, FEVER PITCH) and directed by Stephen Frears (THE QUEEN, PHILOMENA, VICTORIA & ABDUL), STATE OF THE UNION sees a couple meeting in a pub before their couples counselling session. Rosamund plays Louise alongside Chris O’Dowd. The short series launched on SundanceTV in May 2019 and is currently available on BBC iPlayer.
In 2020, Rosamund was seen starring in Andrea Di Stefano’s THE INFORMER, a crime thriller based on the novel Three Seconds by Roslund/Hellström. THE INFORMER was released on 6th November 2020 in the US.
Rosamund has also lent her voice to the animated adaptation of Tove Jansson’s body of work, MOOMINVALLEY. Rosamund plays Moominmamma alongside Taron Egerton, Kate Winslet and Warwick Davis. The television series is directed by Steve Box (The Curse of the Were Rabbit) and was released in 2019.
In 2018, Rosamund was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of the legendary Sunday Times war reporter, Marie Colvin, in A PRIVATE WAR. Colvin died in 2012 in a targeted rocket attack whilst covering the Syrian civil war. The film is based on Marie Brenner’s Vanity Fair article, “Marie Colvin’s Private War” and is directed by Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, City of Ghosts). The film premiered at London Film Festival 2018.
Also, in 2018, Rosamund starred in José Padilha’s (Narcos) 7 DAYS IN ENTEBBE, Brad Anderson’s (The Machinist) BEIRUT (THE NEGOTIATOR) and Patrick Kennedy’s (War Horse, Mr Holmes) short film: THE HUMAN VOICE. In 7 DAYS IN ENTEBBE, Rosamund plays a German revolutionary who hijacks an aeroplane and forces it to land in Entebbe, Uganda, in an effort to free Palestinians jailed in Israel. The film is based on the actual hijacking of Air France 139 in 1976. Rosamund plays a CIA field agent based in 1970s Beirut in political thriller BEIRUT, opposite Jon Hamm. Rosamund plays the lead in THE HUMAN VOICE, an adaptation from the play by Jean Cocteau. This short film follows an unflinching portrait of a woman's heartbreak over the course of a final telephone conversation between lovers.
In 2017, Rosamund starred in Scott Cooper’s (Crazy Heart, Black Mass) HOSTILES alongside Christian Bale. The film tells the tale of an American Army Captain tasked with escorting a Cheyenne Chief through a dangerous territory. Rosamund also played Lina Von Osten in THE MAN WITH THE IRON HEART, which tells the story of the Nazi officer who masterminded the “Final Solution” and who was assassinated by two resistance paratroopers in 1942.
In 2016, Rosamund starred in Amma Asante’s (Belle) A UNITED KINGDOM, opposite David Oyelowo, which tells the true story of Seretse Khama, a member of the Botswanan royal family. Khama sparked controversy when he married Ruth Williams (portrayed by Rosamund) in 1948, when interracial marriage was illegal, and was then banned from his home country in 1951. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2016 and opened the London Film Festival in October 2016. And in 2015, she played the lead in the thriller RETURN TO SENDER, which depicts the story of a nurse who agrees to a blind date. However, the man who shows up is not who he seems.
In 2014, Rosamund starred in David Fincher's (Se7en, The Social Network) GONE GIRL, in which she played Amy Dunne, opposite Ben Affleck. GONE GIRL was adapted for the screen by the best-selling book's original author, Gillian Flynn. The film earned over $215 million in global ticket sales. Both the film and Rosamund's performance earned widespread critical acclaim. Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair called her portrayal "a star-makingly good performance, spellbinding in its operatic mix of tones and temperatures." Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter reviewed that Pike "is powerful and commanding ... Physically and emotionally, Pike looks to have immersed herself in this profoundly calculating character, and the results are impressive."
As such, Rosamund was nominated for an Academy Award, a SAG Award, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and was honoured in February 2015 at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. She was also honoured with the ‘Breakthrough Performance Award’ at the 26th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival and at the Women in Film & TV (UK) Awards. Additionally, she won many film critics’ awards for her portrayal including the Austin Film Critics Association Award, Utah Film Critics Association Award, and Oklahoma Film Critics’ Circle Award as well as being nominated for a London Critics’ Circle Film Award, St. Louis Film Critics Award, Phoenix Film Critics Society, International Press Academy Satellite Award, Women’s Image Network Award, Georgia Film Critics Association Award, Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award and the Washington DC Area Film Critics Award.
Also in 2014, Rosamund starred opposite Simon Pegg, Stellen Skarsgard and Toni Collette in Peter Chelsom's HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS. She also appeared in Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin's part-improvised BBC comedy WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY, alongside Billy Connolly and David Tennant.
In 2010, Rosamund starred in BARNEY’S VERSION opposite Paul Giamatti. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and went on to receive rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, is a love story which poignantly captures the life of the politically incorrect, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky (Giamatti) and the women he has loved in his life. Rosamund's work in the film earned her a London Critics' Circle Award for "British Actress of the Year" and a Genie Award nomination for Best Actress.
Rosamund received critical acclaim for her work as Helen in Lone Scherfig's AN EDUCATION opposite Peter Sarsgaard and Carey Mulligan. Received well at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009, An Education continued to garner critical acclaim with Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Film Critics nominations, and a win for Best Foreign Film at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Pike's other film credits include A LONG WAY DOWN, Edgar Wright's THE WORLD’S END, opposite Simon Pegg, JACK REACHER opposite Tom Cruise, and WRATH OF THE TITANS, directed by Jonathan Liebesman. In 2010, Pike played Lisa Hopkins in the dramatic film MADE IN DAGENHAM with Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson and Bob Hoskins. She was later nominated for a 2011 London Critics' Circle Award for "British Actress in a Supporting Role" for her role in the film. Others projects have included JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN, THE BIG YEAR, WOMEN IN LOVE, THE LIBERTINE, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, FRACTURE, FUGITIVE PIECES, SURROGATES, BURNING PALMS and DIE ANOTHER DAY.
Aside from her cinematic roles, Rosamund has continued to return to her roots with theatre performances on the London stage. She has starred in GASLIGHT, Patrick Hamilton's Victorian thriller, at the Old Vic Theatre, The Donmar Warehouse Production of MADAME DE SADE in The West End, opposite Judi Dench, and The Royal Court Theatre production of HITCHCOCK BLONDE directed by Terry Johnson. With its enormous success, the play was moved to the Lyric Theatre in London's West End. Rosamund began 2010 by playing the title role in HEDDA GABLER, a performance for which she received rave reviews.
