Emily Blunt is a Golden Globe and SAG Award winning actress whose transformative ability and versatile performances make her one of the most in demand actresses of today.
Most recently, you can find Blunt starring opposite Chris Evans in Pain Hustlers, an American conspiracy drama film directed by David Yates and adapted from a screenplay by Wells Tower, based on a 2018 New York Times Magazine article, "The Pain Hustlers", by Evan Hughes and his subsequent novel The Hard Sell released in 2022. Blunt also recently starred opposite Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. She gave a stellar performance as Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer who ran the Manhattan Project that led to the invention of the atomic bomb. In addition to these two compelling film roles, Blunt was also recently on small screen, starring in The English, a seven-part western drama television miniseries for Amazon and BBC that was released in 2022.
Coming up for Emily, she will be part of IF in a star studded cast alongside John Krasinski, Matt Damon and Ryan Renolds. Directed by John Krasinski, the animated film follows a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and then begins to see everyone's imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. Also in 2024, Emily can be found starring opposite Ryan Gosling in the action thriller film The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce. In addition, Emily is set to reteam with Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions for a new action-adventure, Kate Warne. The film is based on the real-life Warne who was the first woman to become a detective at the Pinkerton Agency. In addition to starring, Blunt’s Ledbury Productions will serve as a producer.
In 2018, Blunt demonstrated her incredible multifaceted talent by starring in both the modern horror thriller A Quiet Place as well as Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the 1964 classic Mary Poppins. Blunt won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her work in Paramount/Platinum Dunes’ A Quiet Place, opposite John Krasinski, who also wrote and directed the film. The critically acclaimed and Academy Award nominated film opened in April 2018 to $50 million and topped the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office and went on to win and be nominated for numerous prestigious awards including winning a Critics Choice Award for Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie.
Additionally, Blunt received Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice Award nominations for her work as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns. The Academy Award nominated film, which features Blunt alongside an all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Dick Van Dyke and Lin-Manuel Miranda, was directed by Rob Marshall and released by Disney in December 2018.
In 2016, Blunt received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Rachel Watson, an alcoholic caught in the middle of a murder mystery, in the film adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel, The Girl on the Train. Her performance earned her a nomination for a SAG ® and BAFTA ® award. Blunt also received rave reviews as FBI agent Kate Macer in Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, which centers around the escalating war against drugs, and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to great acclaim. Earlier, Blunt earned a Golden Globe nomination and critical praise as “The Baker’s Wife” in Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of the musical, Into The Woods, which was released by Disney in December 2014.
Blunt started her career in the 2002 Chichester Festival, where she played Juliet in a production of Romeo and Juliet. Her London stage debut was a production of The Royal Family, opposite Dame Judi Dench. In addition to her Golden Globe Award win for the BBC television movie Gideon’s Daughter, Blunt has been nominated for three additional Golden Globe Awards as well as two BAFTA Awards, and two British Independent Film Awards.
