Synopsis

Punch and Roll is a technique that allows you to fix mistakes while recording audio. Whether you are narrating audiobooks, eLearning modules, short form narration, or even commercials and promos, you owe it to yourself to learn how to perform this useful function in whichever DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) you prefer to use. Nearly all of the popular DAWs used for audio recording have some form of P&R capability. Learning to perform P&R (as opposed to an open record or the so-called “Dog Clicker Method”) is more efficient. P&R speeds up your recording time, shaves at least 1/3rd off of your post-production editing time, and results in a more consistent sounding recording for VO auditions and audiobook production.

In this webinar James Romick will demonstrate three different methods of performing P&R in three different DAWs. Audacity (destructive editing),
OcenAudio (like Twisted Wave, both destructive and non-destructive) and REAPER (non-destructive as with most other DAWs). Demonstrations will be followed by a Q&A period. This webinar will only focus on the Punch and Roll function not on other aspects of self-recording. All levels are welcome but be advised this workshop is geared toward participants who are able to self-record in the DAW of their choice and wish to learn the P&R function.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

James Romick

James Romick has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1980.  Between acting gigs in the mid 1980s, James also studied audio engineering at The Institute of Audio Research in NYC when editing analog magnetic tape with a splicing block and razor blade was the norm. Although he has a working knowledge of many different DAWs, James prefers to record VO and his audiobooks with REAPER.
