Synopsis: 

'Doin’ It' follows Maya (Lilly Singh), a 30-year-old software engineer from a conservative Indian family who moonlights as a high school substitute teacher while working on a teen-focused app. When she’s unexpectedly assigned to teach sex education—despite never having had sex herself—chaos and comedy ensue.

Lilly Singh is an award-winning entertainer, actress, producer, New York Times best-selling author, gender equality advocate, and President of Unicorn Island. A leading force in pop culture with a digital audience of over 40 million, she has pivoted her successful online career to the big and small screens.

Lilly has dedicated her entertainment and advocacy work, via Unicorn Island, to supporting the advancement of girls and women around the world. Through Unicorn Island Productions and its non-profit arm, Unicorn Island Fund, she continues to blaze new paths in storytelling to spotlight underrepresented voices, challenge social norms, and transform the way the world sees, values and invests in girls and women.

Lilly’s first feature film, DOIN’ IT, will be released in theaters on September 19, 2025. It premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival in the “Narrative Spotlight” section. The raunchy, subversive comedy is about a 30-year-old Indian-American virgin who gets a job teaching high school sex ed. Lilly co-wrote, produced, and stars as the lead in the film. During the Festival, Lilly received the “Comedy Crossover” Award at Variety’s Power of Comedy event.

In television, Lilly broke barriers as the only woman of color to host a late-night show on a major network in nearly thirty years with A LITTLE LATE WITH LILLY SINGH. She can be seen hosting CTV's primetime quiz show BATTLE OF THE GENERATIONS, which premiered its second season in May 2025. Lilly can also be seen as the lead in the Disney+ comedy series, THE MUPPETS MAYHEM – which won the Emmy Award for “Outstanding Children’s Or Family Viewing Series” in 2023.  She made her mark as a judge on seasons two, three, and four of CityTV’s CANADA’S GOT TALENT. Her film/TV credits also include voice over roles in the popular animated features HITPIG!, ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE, THE BAD GUYS, and RIVERDANCE: THE ANIMATED ADVENTURE, among others. Lilly returned as ‘Tiffany Fluffit’ in THE BAD GUYS 2, which came to theaters August 2025. Additionally, Lilly voices the lead in her animated series, THE MINDFUL ADVENTURES OF UNICORN ISLAND, now available on YouTube – which she also executive produced through Unicorn Island in partnership with Headspace Studios.

In 2024, Lilly was appointed to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Advocate by the UN Secretary-General and she addressed the UN at UNGA 2024 in support of Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, a recipient of The 2023 DVF Leadership Award on behalf of UIF. Her TED Talk, “A seat at the table isn’t the solution for gender equity,” has received millions of views and was one of the five most popular TED Talks of 2022.

From various lanes of entertainment, including sports, Lilly champions women. It was recently announced that she has joined the WNBA Toronto Tempo’s ownership group, with the title of “Chief Hype Officer” for the team. She is also co-owner of the Angel City Football Club (ACFC) and played on the winning team at the 2024 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.

As an author, Lilly has published two books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller “How To Be A Bawse: A Guide to Surviving Conquering Life” and “Be a Triangle: How I Went from Being Lost to Getting My Life Into Shape,” which debuted in April 2022 as an instant best-seller in Canada and India. She celebrates diverse authors and their unique stories through her Lilly’s Library book club.

Lilly also partnered with AAVRANI, an Ayurvedic science-backed beauty brand inspired by Indian cultural rituals, for a collaborative hair care collection (available on Sephora.com) that she helped create alongside its founder Rooshy Roy.

Sara Zandieh

Sara Zandieh is an award-winning film and television director based in Los Angeles. Her latest film, DOIN’ IT, starring Lilly Singh, premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and will be released theatrically on September 19, 2025. She also directed the Amazon Prime international hit THE OTHER ZOEY, featuring Andie MacDowell, Heather Graham, Josephine Langford, and Drew Starkey, which topped Amazon Prime’s charts for over ten months.

Zandieh’s debut feature, A SIMPLE WEDDING, starring Rita Wilson and Shohreh Aghdashloo, premiered to critical acclaim at the LA Film Festival and received a nationwide theatrical release. On television, she has directed episodes of NBC’s GOOD GIRLS and GROSSE POINTE GARDEN SOCIETY after being selected as one of Universal’s prestigious Female Forward directors.

Her acclaimed short films include THE POOL PARTY (Tribeca, Cinequest) and REZA HASSANI GOES TO THE MALL (Telluride, winner of the Focus Features Best Film Award). In 2022, Zandieh was named to Variety’s Directors to Watch list. A Fulbright Fellow and recipient of a MacDowell Colony residency, Zandieh was also selected for the La Fémis Director’s Workshop in Paris and holds an MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University.
