SYNOPSIS
This discussion will briefly cover the anatomy of professional voicing, introducing the concept of acting as a sport (and the health maintenance that that entails). Exercises and strategies for safe warm up, cool down and rebalancing, whole-body and mind concepts, practical tools like SOVT, self-massage, etc. will be presented to ensure actors have tools available to them for optimization and self-assessment.
INSTRUCTOR BIO'S
Dr. Reena Gupta
Reena Gupta MD is a laryngologist (voice doctor and surgeon) and founder of Center for Vocal Health. She completed her residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at NYU and then did an additional year-long fellowship in Laryngology/Care of the Professional Voice. Dr. Gupta opened Center for Vocal Health as the first Laryngologist-led private voice center in Southern California. Dr. Gupta is published in numerous journals and textbooks and presents on vocal health topics locally and internationally.
Tressa Cox, SLP
Tressa Cox is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and singer, who specializes in vocal health and rehabilitation for vocal athletes—including professional singers, voice actors, and speakers. As the lead voice therapist at Center for Vocal Health (Beverly HIlls, CA), she draws from both clinical expertise and lived performance experience, she provides skilled, compassionate care tailored to safely optimize and care for each client’s unique voice.
REQUIREMENTS
This class is open to everyone. Voiceover Lab eligibility is not required to attend.
