BIO:

Two-time BAFTA TV & International Emmy-winning Sean Bean is a RADA-trained English actor with a career spanning film, television and stage. He is beloved by audiences worldwide for iconic performances as the titular character in SHARPE (1993-2008), as Boromir in 'The Lord of the Rings: Followship of the Ring' (2002) and as Ned Stark in 'Game of Thrones' (2011).

Sean’s upcoming projects include Amazon MGM+’s series 'Robin Hood,' a modern take on the classic tale where he will be playing the Sheriff Of Nottingham, 'The Yellow Tie,' a biopic of the Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache where Sean will play Demostene Celibidache, 'The Isolate Thief,' a Western film set during the US Civil War, and 'Watch the Skies,' where Sean will be joining the voice cast alongside Sam Claflin and Asa Butterfield. It has also been announced that Sean will be starring in Duncan Jones’ 'Rogue Trooper' film, an adaptation of the classic 2000 AD comic. In October this year, Sean can be starring in the eagerly anticipated film 'Anemone,' starring alongside Daniel Day-Lewis & Samantha Morton.

Most recently, Sean can be seen in Prime Video’s action film 'Deep Cover.' Earlier this year, Sean also starred in the BBC series 'This City is Ours,' an epic crime drama set in Liverpool which will see Sean play gang leader Ronnie Phelan. Last year, Sean starred in Disney+’s 'Shardlake,' a series based on the historical novels by C. J. Sansom where Sean plays Thomas Cromwell. Sean also joined the voice cast of 'Buffalo Kids,' alongside Stephen Graham and Gemma Arterton.

In 2023 Sean appeared in 'Knights of the Zodiac,' a film based on the iconic Saint Seiya anime. Sean plays Seiya’s mentor, Alman Kido. He also voiced the Pharaoh the animated comedy film 'Mummies.'

In 2022 Sean starred in Stefan Golaszewski’s BBC One drama 'Marriage,' alongside Nicola Walker. This critically acclaimed series presents the ups and downs of a couple’s relationship, having been married for 30 years, as well as the third series of TNT’s post-apocalyptic thriller series 'Snowpiercer,' which is based upon the French graphic novel.

2021 saw Sean appear in the lead role in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC One’s prison drama 'Time.' This series follows Sean’s character’s journey as he is imprisoned for manslaughter for drink driving. Sean won the BAFTA Television Award for the ‘Best Leading Actor’ for his performance, his second BAFTA win in this category. 

Sean starred in Brandon Cronenburg’s psychological sci-fi horror film 'Possessor' in 2020, as well animated fantasy 'Wolfwalkers.'

In 2019 Sean featured in Sky TV’s 'Curfew,' a British dystopian action series, and BBC One’s WWII television drama 'World on Fire.'

In 2018 Sean starred in Renaissance historical show 'Medici: Masters of Florence' and also American crime drama 'The Oath.'

2017 saw Sean appear in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC One drama 'Broken.' The series focuses on Sean’s character, Father Michael Kerrigan, a Catholic priest who attempts to guide his parishioners through the trials of everyday life. Sean won the BAFTA Television Award for ‘Best Leading Actor’ for his performance. Sean also stared in Clio Barnard’s film drama DARK RIVER and Jason Bourke’s thriller movie 'Drone.'

Sean’s other notable credits include 'The Frankenstein Chronicles' (2015-2017), 'Legends' (2014-2017), Ridley Scott’s 'The Martian' (2015), the Wachowski’s 'Jupiter Ascending' (2015), 'Accused' (2012) for which he was nominated for the 2013 BAFTA Television Award for ‘Best Leading Actor’ and for which he won the Royal Television Society Award and the International Emmy Award for ‘Best Actor’, 'Missing' (2012), 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians' (2010), 'Black Death' (2010), 'Red Riding 1983' (2009), 'Silent Hill' (2006),  'Flightplan' (2005), Wolfgang Peterson’s 'Troy' (2005), 'National Treasure' (2004), 'Equilibrium (2002), 'Ronin' (1998), 'Anna Karenina' (1997), 'Goldeneye' (1995), 'Patriot Games' (1992), 'Clarrisa' (1991) and 'Lady Chaterley' (1993).

Sean is a proud son of the English city of Sheffield. He received an honorary doctorate from  Sheffield Hallam University in 1997 and a Doctor of Letters in English Literature from the  University of Sheffield in 2007. A Sheffield Legends plaque has been placed in his honour outside Sheffield Town Hall
