Want help understanding how to approach accent work? Join industry veteran and founder of the website AccentHelp.com, Jim Johnson, for an exploration through all of the elements necessary for learning any accent!

In this session Jim will cover placement, intonation, and the essential elements of phonetics. Jim will share the principles necessary to understand this work without the need to know IPA or commit rules to rote memorization. He will use a number of specific examples from a variety of accents as he guides you through these principles and share specific materials that he's developed during his 23 plus years as a professor of voice and accents and a professional coach. This session will conclude with ample time for a Q&A to address any accent-related questions you might have.

Instructor Bio 

Jim Johnson is the founder of AccentHelp.com, the leading accent learning website for actors, where he has developed materials for 54 different accents.. Jim is a Professor Emeritus at The University of Houston, where he taught voice & accents for 23 years, after years of teaching for The Theatre School of DePaul. He is also an Artistic Associate with the Prague Shakespeare Company, teaching and performing with their annual Summer Shakespeare Intensive since 2016. Jim has coached for a variety of theatre, opera, film, and television productions, in addition to prepping other dialect coaches for projects.
