Synopsis

Join REAPER enthusiast and tutor, James Romick,  for a deeper dive into recording, editing, mastering and rendering files in REAPER.

In this class  James will demonstrate the procedures he uses to ensure that files meet industry standards and requirements. He will also demonstrate how to set up and use two other programs – iZotope RX Standard and  Audacity – as REAPER’s two external editors.

A few days prior to class attendees will be sent instructions on submitting a raw (totally unprocessed) .wav recording of a narration of about 2 minutes in length with  3 seconds of room tone at the tail.  James will select random samples  to work on during class to demonstrate mastering  files to ACX Specifications for Peak, RMS and Noise Floor. Submission of a file is strongly encouraged but not required to attend this class.

Requirements

This is an advanced level class. It is meant to be a follow-up to  REAPER 102: Let's Record  but is appropriate for anyone comfortable with recording raw audio in REAPER and interested in improving the quality of their files and learning about post production. Participants are encouraged, but not required,  to submit raw audio files prior to class for use in class demonstration. Instructions for submission will be sent a few day prior to class.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

James Romick

James Romick has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1980.  Between acting gigs in the mid 1980s, James also studied audio engineering at The Institute of Audio Research in NYC when editing analog magnetic tape with a splicing block and razor blade was the norm. Although he has a working knowledge of many different DAWs, James prefers to record VO and his audiobooks with REAPER. Take this session and learn why.
