Synopsis

When you’re asked to perform in a new-to-you accent, where do you start? Accent work doesn’t have to feel overwhelming; it’s a skill, and skills can be learned! Join dialect coach Kat Littrell to explore the four pillars of accent performance based on Knight-Thompson Speechwork: people, oral posture, prosody (the music of speech), and pronunciation. Whether you’ve never attempted an accent or you’re a seasoned accent chameleon, these pillars will help ground your accent work in a playful, skills-based approach you can keep practicing on your own. All levels welcome.

Format

This is an interactive lecture, covering each of the four pillars of accent work interspersed with experiential exercises. Participants will be able to practice both muted and unmuted, at the level of their comfort. The session will close with a Q&A.

Requirements

Bring a willingness to play and something to take notes with. All participants must remain for the duration of the session.
