Synopsis

REAPER has become one of the most popular home-studio recording platforms for voiceover artists and audiobook narrators.

Join REAPER expert James Romick for a hands-on intermediate to advanced level class where participants will learn how to edit and master their recordings using a simple FX processing chain to meet ACX specifications for Peak, RMS and Noise Floor.

Prior to the session, James will provide a script and a raw REAPER Project audio file. During class, he will demonstrate each step of the post-production process using that recording. After each demonstration, James will pause to allow participants time to practice that step at home and ask questions before moving forward. By the end of the class, participants will have gained hands-on experience transforming a raw recording into a fully produced audiobook audition file. These basic techniques are applicable to other VO genres as well.

If you are comfortable self-recording in REAPER and are ready to learn how to edit and master your audio to professional standards, this class is for you.

Requirements

This is an intermediate-to-advanced level workshop. Participants should be comfortable working in REAPER and must have the software downloaded and open when logging into Zoom. While the concepts discussed are applicable to other DAWs, demonstrations will be limited to REAPER.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

James Romick

James Romick has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1980.  Between acting gigs in the mid 1980s, James also studied audio engineering at The Institute of Audio Research in NYC when editing analog magnetic tape with a splicing block and razor blade was the norm. Although he has a working knowledge of many different DAWs, James prefers to record VO and his audiobooks with REAPER. Take this session and learn why.
