BIO:

Academy Award-winning actress Youn Yuh-jung is a trailblazing force in global cinema, celebrated for a prolific career that spans over five decades. Affectionately known as the “Godmother of Chungmu-ro” (the heart of the South Korean film industry), Youn has consistently defied convention, bringing unmatched depth, wit, and gravity to the screen.

Youn first captivated audiences in the late 1960s, quickly rising to prominence with her fearless performance in the 1971 classic Woman of Fire. Following a hiatus in the United States, she returned to acting in the late 1980s, embarking on a triumphant second act. She established herself as a revered cinematic powerhouse through critically acclaimed, boundary-pushing films such as The Housemaid (2010), The Taste of Money (2012), and The Bacchus Lady (2016). Concurrently, she became a beloved television icon, anchoring massive Korean dramas like Men of the Bath House (1995), My Husband Got a Family (2012), and Dear My Friends (2016).

In 2020, Youn achieved unprecedented international acclaim for her scene-stealing, deeply moving performance as Soon-ja in Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari. The role cemented her place in cinematic history, making her the first Korean actress ever to win an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.

Today, Youn continues to transcend borders and generations, bringing her legendary talent to global audiences. She recently starred as “Chairwoman Park” in the Netflix limited series BEEF
