SYNOPSIS
In this workshop, core techniques of audiobook narration will be stressed, with an emphasis on fiction narration. Each participant will perform a short excerpt of assigned fiction and will receive personalized coaching to refine their execution and understanding of technique.
Participants will learn to:
Mine the text for clues to content and performance for greater expressiveness;
Connect with and engage the listener,
Create images in the listener’s mind.
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Robin Miles
Producer/narrator/coach Robin Miles shows a love of language and literature, and is an Audiofile Golden Voice who “…never disappoints.” Nuanced narration, fluid and realistic accents, and truthful characterizations keep her squarely in demand. In addition to earning numerous awards (Audies, Earphones, “Best of the Year”), she is a veteran of Broadway, regional theater, TV/film, and museum exhibits from coast to coast. Her 250+ audiobook titles include the recent, Cleopatra: A Life, The Warmth of Other Suns, and this year’s Audie finalists, METAtropolis, BooK4 and Keeping Hope Alive.
As a coach & director, Robin adapts to the varied needs of the celebrity, pro, novice or layperson. A former Asst. Professor of speech at SUNY Purchase Theater Conservatory, acting teacher for the Neighborhood Playhouse, ESL instructor atKaplan's International Center, and communication coach to Merrill Lynch managers, Robin founded Voxpertise®, a teaching & voice arts production studio. She holds a BA from Yale University, an MFA from the Yale School of Drama and a certificate from the British American Drama Academie in England.
REQUIREMENTS
Each participant will be responsible for 2 short excerpts (16 to 20 lines) from fiction to read prior to the workshop this Monday. Go to http://www.voxpertise.com/sagaftra/index.html to access these excerpts. Follow the instructions on the home page, and read over all excerpts that match your gender AND vocal age/type. Again, prepare two of these excerpts.
