SYNOPSIS
The SAG-AFTRA Foundation is partnering with The Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival on their presentation of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Freewheeling, inclusive and a bit anarchic, the festival includes mainstage performances, pre-show kids and family events including workshops and a slate of extraordinary opening acts. Bring a blanket (low seat beach chairs are also okay), and a picnic to enjoy great theater in a great city.
Pre-show Workshop for children and families at 5 PM
Show at 7 PM
*Note: There will not be a check-in for this event*
THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA
A pair of idealistic best friends set out on a road trip. They are followed by two young women, determined to write their own destiny. Little do they all suspect they will have to overcome betrayal, broken hearts, and a band of outlaws before the journey’s end. One of Shakespeare’s brightest plays, this coming-of-age comedy features live rockabilly music, swing dancing, and a dog named Crab.
PRE-SHOW WORKSHOP: Players in the Park
This popular series allows children and families to explore our plays and productions before the performance.
Through active, imaginative exercises, you'll learn about the characters and themes of the plays. You also get the opportunity to tour backstage, meet some of the actors, and get some hands-on experience with the props and costumes of that evening’s production.
The workshop will run from 5 PM - 6 PM. The performance starts at 7pm (so there's time to enjoy picnics in between!) The workshops are open to learners of all ages. The youngest members should be accompanied by an adult.
LOCATION & PARKING
Old Zoo, Griffith Park
The festival stage is located at the site of Old Zoo, in Griffith Park, on the east side. There are three direct freeway access points:
1) From the Southbound 5: take the Los Feliz Blvd West exit turning right up Crystal Springs Drive almost immediately upon exiting the freeway. There may be roadworks along this section of Crystal Springs Drive, so be aware of them while entering the park. Follow the signs to make a right turn onto Crystal Springs Drive.
2) From the Eastbound 134: take the Victory Blvd exit (following signs to the LA Zoo). You will make a right onto Riverside, and an immediate left onto Zoo Drive (which will then become Crystal Springs Drive as you continue past the Los Angeles Zoo).
3) From the Northbound 5: take the Griffith Park exit, which will take you to Crystal Springs Drive. Turn right on Crystal Springs Drive
Ample free parking is available. Look for the hot pink signs directing you to the parking lots near the Merry-Go-Round. Parking lot 2 is the closest to the performance site, but be prepared for a bit of a walk up a hill.
For disabled access, please call us at 818-710-6306 for information and to make any needed arrangements.
