The Nelms Brothers

Writers/Directors Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, grew up in central California waging two hundred man G.I. Joe wars and dreaming in John Ford Landscapes. Though their evolving passions temporarily took them in different directions — Ian went to college on a wrestling scholarship and Eshom pursued an education in fine art painting — the two would always find themselves returning to their love of film.

While Ian has produced various projects independently and Eshom has worked as a professional storyboard artist for over a decade, the Nelms Brothers always write and direct together and have made multiple award-winning short and feature films. Their film, LOST ON PURPOSE, starred Jane Kaczmarek, C. Thomas Howell, James Lafferty, Aaron Hill, Dale Dickey and Academy Award®-winner Octavia Spencer and received rave reviews and multiple festival wins including Best Film at Beverly Hills Film Festival, Best Directors at FirstGlance Film Festival, Best Film at Reelheart Film Festival, Best Film at TrindieFest and Best Actress for Jane Kaczmarek at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.

In 2013, they filmed WAFFLE STREET, starring James Lafferty and Danny Glover, based on the memoir of the same name, which went on to win Woodstock Film Festival's Inaugural Carpe Diem Award for Best Filmas well as Best Narrative Film at the Hollywood Film Festival.

The Nelms Brothers also produce most of their projects together and, in 2017, they executive produced the series “Everyone is Doing Great,” created by James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti. Independently, Ian also produced the film STRANGELY IN LOVE, which stars Michelle Lang andJemuel Morris.

Separately, Eshom works as a professional storyboard artist with a client list that includes global brands such Disney, McDonald’s, Hasbro, NBC, Budweiser, NFL and Redbull among others.

Most recently, Ian and Eshom wrote and directed SMALL TOWN CRIME, starring John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Robert Forster and Academy Award®-Winner Octavia Spencer, who also serves as an Executive Producer. SMALL TOWN CRIME premiered at 2017 SXSW Film Festival to rave reviews and will be released by Saban Film in late 2017 / early 2018.
