SYNOPSIS

Atlanta, GA

ROOM: Leadership Center 356

This two hour class will include a Q&A and a prepared reading session with an experienced casting professional.

Please prepare a TV/movie monologue or scene of two minutes in length or less. If you choose a scene, please bring a copy for the reader.

CASTING DIRECTOR BIO

Under the banner of The Chez Agency, Shay Bentley-Griffin began her career as a successful talent agent, launching the careers of many actors in soaps, television series, and feature films. She later moved forward to establish Chez Casting, Inc. and quickly became a prolific casting director for film and television.
In her distinguished career, Shay Bentley-Griffin has cast over 225 television and feature film projects, including Sully (2016), Sleepless Night (2016), Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (2016), Kill The Messenger (2014), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), The Watsons Go To Birmingham (2013), and the miniseries Coma (2012) produced by Mark Zucker, each of which was a showcase for Georgia talent appearing in almost 80 percent of the roles. Bentley-Griffin also cast the critically acclaimed feature films Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), Remember the Titans (2000), and Sweet Home Alabama (2002).
She was the Casting Director on eight seasons of In the Heat of the Night (1988-1995) and the Peabody Award-winning series I'll Fly Away (1991-1993). Through her career, she has worked with numerous directors such as Ang Lee, Clint Eastwood, Kenny Leon, Shawn Levy, Adam McKay, Tyler Perry, Sam Raimi, Wes Craven, Jon Avnet, and Edward Zwick.
Shay is a recipient of the Crystal Obelisk Award from the Casting Society of America, and she is also a three-time Emmy nominee for her work in casting. Most recently, Bentley-Griffin was honored with the ‘Icons of the Industry’ Award from the Entertainment Society of the Technology Association of Georgia.
As Vice-Chair of the Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Board and founding President of the Georgia Production Partnership, Shay Bentley-Griffin collaborated with industry and government leaders to create and secure passage of Georgia’s highly successful 2008 Entertainment Tax Incentive. Shay has served the State of Georgia as Film Liaison to Los Angeles. She continues to sit on the executive board of GPP and she is also a board member for the Rome International Film Festival. She is a member of Women in Film International, a proud member of the Casting Society of America, a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, Agribusiness, and the Farm Bureau.
Shay continues to create challenging career opportunities. She is currently co-producing the pilot episode of That Renovation Show and she is also in development of the television series The Land We Love, which unites her love of both film and farming.
